Abstract:

This research work starts from the questioning of economic value at the time of ecological limits. It proposes to question the historical relationship that economic value has with these limits.

The questioning starts with a critique of the contemplative attitude, as a theoretical contemplation of ideas, proper to a certain idea of emancipation in social sciences and heterodox economics. It continues with a critical dialogue with the theories of value in the field of heterodox thought in order to propose not a new theory of value, but a theory of the historical institution of which the economic value would be the symbolic dimension. The aim is to theoretically hold together the imaginary and the symbolic of the institutions of capitalism in our time. The concepts of social imaginary and symbolic dimension of the institution are the central concepts of Cornelius Castoriadis’ thought about the institution. They will be presented in this part. Finally, the third part will try to show that the major place of this knotting between the imaginary, the symbolic and the material is the enterprise defined as the germinal place of capitalism.
